A Guide to Wookies in the Woods
Wookies in the Woods
Wookies In The Woods is an annual gathering of VW R32 and Golf R owners centered around US-129 aka “Tail of the Dragon”. The route covers 318 curves in eleven miles, making it one of the most well-known driving roads in the country for motorcycles and sports cars alike. The event is community-organized and draws attendees from across the US.
The Drive
The road is best described as a technical, twisty, and scenic drive through the mountains. It demands your full attention as there are no shoulders and the road is narrow. Flowing through the curves is a rewarding experience, but it’s not a road for pushing your limits. I definitely try to stay well under my limits and focus on carrying a rhythm through the curves.

The drive out
Driving from central Pennsylvania to the Dragon is a long haul. At about 9-10hrs, it’s definitely a journey, but it’s been worth it for those few days of driving. I’ve learned picking up audiobooks and podcasts makes the drive go by faster.
Jurassic park was a great listen.
The Event
Drive. Just drive. It is one of the best scenic mountain rides I have ever been on. Every road is different, with new challenges and rewards.
